EMT Refresher
As an EMT, you must recertify every two years. There are two different ways to recertify - you can either re-take the NREMT exam, or you can do a 24-hour refresher course plus 48-hours of continuing education.
The EMT Refresher course is designed for current EMTs who wish to maintain their status. It is important to realize that training is a constant process that extends long past your original EMT course. An EMT must maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills. Since ongoing research in emergency care causes occasional changes in procedure, some of the information you received during your initial training might be out of date. There are many ways to stay current, including going to conferences, on-line training, and auditing courses.
EMT Refresher Course
The National Registry and the states of MN and ND require recertification every two years. Refresher courses present material to the EMT who has already been through a full course but now needs to receive updated information. Refresher courses are at least 24 hours.
Every class session will cover didactic material and practical skills, and will end with a short quiz on the material covered during that session.
To obtain an EMT Refresher course completion certificate, a participant MUST successfully complete blocks 1 through 6 anywhere F-M Ambulance offers a course. The EMT Refresher course is offered once a year at F-M Ambulance Service and will sometimes be offered at different locations around Cass County.
F-M Ambulance Service also offers an online refresher for the same price as the face-to-face course. Please contact Kristi at kristi.engelstad@fmambulance.com if you are interested in the online course.
F-M Ambulance will do an EMT Refresher course off-site upon request. If your group or squad are interested in an off-site refresher, please contact Kristi at kristi.engelstad@fmambulance.com for a price quote.
As with all of our courses, the EMT Refresher follows the guidelines of the U.S. Department of Transportation and the states of MN and ND.
